Man admits home improvement scheme | WIVB.com

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York contractor has admitted he lied to an 85-year-old customer when he told her squirrels had damaged her roof and charged her more than $18,000 for repairs.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita III said Tuesday that Leslie Ralston of the Buffalo suburb of Cheektowaga faces 2 1/3 to seven years in prison when he's sentenced later this week. He pleaded guilty in county court Monday to grand larceny.

Prosecutors say the victim's roof wasn't damaged and Ralston never repaired it, despite taking $18,450.

Authorities say Ralston's older brother, Joseph, is already in prison following similar schemes and that their father James Ralston's record of home improvement fraud dates to the 1980s.
