Alverno professor Carole Barrowman recently left for the U.K. to promote her new book, Hollow Earth.?Written with her brother, actor John Barrowman, the novel is their first collaboration directed toward children.

?The book tour is going well,? Carole says. ?Exhausting but so much fun.??The pair?s busy tour has included ?lots? of TV appearances, press interviews and elementary school visits.?One afternoon consisted of 18 back-to-back radio interviews.

The 336-page fantasy novel follows the adventures of twins, Matt and Emily, who have the imaginative capabilities to make art come to life.?Their powers are coveted by villains attempting to access the demonic haven called Hollow Earth; it?s up to the twins to save the world.

Despite being on shelves for less than two weeks, reviews of the book have been positive.?Scotland?s The Herald wrote that Hollow Earth is ?expected to be a big hit with fans of fantasies such as Harry Potter and Twilight.?

The book has also received overwhelming amounts of praise through social media outlets such as Facebook, where a fan page called ?The Hollow Earth Society? has nearly 150 likes.?Fans have also posted good reviews about the novel, words of thanks, and their photos of the siblings from various book signings.?One fan called the pair ?very down to earth and positively dynamic people.?

Hollow Earth is currently holding the #2 spot on Amazon U.K.?s list of top children?s books. ?I?m hoping the U.S. version will be out here in the fall,? Carole says.?She says publishing company Simon and Schuster bought and secured the U.S. rights.

Carole is a professor of English and the director of the Creative Studies in Writing support program. Her other obligations include reviewing and maintaining a crime fiction column for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reviewing for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and contributing as a book expert for WTMJ4?s The Morning Blend.

John is best known for his recurring character on the revamped Doctor Who and his spin-off series Torchwood.?A celebrity in the U.K., he has made guest appearances on many BBC shows, has released multiple musical albums and even has his own line of skincare products.

The siblings have collaborated on three publications prior to Hollow Earth, including a Torchwood comic book.?Carole also wrote an essay entitled ?Time is Relative? for the anthology Chicks Dig Time Lords: Celebrating Female Fascination with Doctor Who.

Carole will return to Alverno toward the end of February to resume teaching.
